Educational Background

On the road to becoming a civil engineer, I completed two bachelor’s programs, several associate degrees, and a M.S. in Civil Engineering. In this twenty-year journey, I have studied/worked in fifteen states and all across California: at three UCs, three Cal State universities, and five community colleges. To my surprise, the most impactful academic program was found at Cal Poly Humboldt, where I spent three years in the Environmental Resources Engineering major. My professors and their encouraging learning environment inspired me to earn a master’s degree from UC Berkeley, before returning to Cal Poly Humboldt in 2024 to finish a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies.

My areas of emphasis for this degree are Geoscience and Engineering, targeting a career in engineering project management (land development, excavation, earthwork, dam retrofits, utility networks, cost forecasting, and construction management).

My first two years in the civil engineering field have focused on geotechnical applications and civil infrastructure. The courses at Cal Poly Humboldt that directly apply to my work are Geomorphology, Mechanics of Materials, Structural Geology, Engineering Geology, and Data Analysis. Key graduate courses included Advanced Geomechanics, Groundwater Hydrology, Earthquake Engineering, and Foundation Engineering, culminating in a 150-page document on embankment design and settlement analysis.
